My daughter asked me how I am investing in my future. I think that she was wondering whether I had mutual funds, RRSP’s or a stock portfolio, but that wasn’t the answer that I gave her.
I feel that I am definitely investing in my future as a matter of fact, that is what I have told people for years.
Living in Poverty as a Single Mom
Five years ago I was living below the poverty level. I was raising two small children on my own and we lived in a basement suite.
From the outside looking in, my life seemed to be in a sad state. No car, no nice clothes and no money. Other people may have felt that I had hit bottom and my life was unfulfilled but I didn’t feel that way.
One of my neighbors asked me, “If you are so spiritual and you believe in all this ‘greatest good’ garbage, then why is your life so screwed up?”
I told him that I thought his question was valid but that my interpretation of my life was different from his.
Investing in My Future
I saw myself as investing in my future. I paid very close attention to creating good karma for myself!
I would take the time to compliment strangers, as I know kind words can really brighten someone’s day. I wrote letters to employers sharing my positive experiences in their store or restaurant, so that when I received great service, the person’s employer knew about it.
I smiled at passersby. I recycled everything that I possibly could and taught my children to hug trees. When I say that I taught them to hug trees I’m not kidding.
We walked everywhere and my kids would run from tree to tree hugging them and saying a small blessing to them. ‘Please grow and share your beauty with us for years’ (or something like that depending on what they felt like saying).
I offered my life up to the Goddess everyday and asked Her to use me and my life for Her greatest good. I shared my spiritual beliefs with my friends and even found myself teaching others. Integrity, honesty and truth were the rules I lived by.
Creating Good Karma
Now don’t think that I was this naive-sunshine-and-roses-sickly-sweet person. I had plenty of balance in my life but I always believed if I was a bright light and shared my beliefs through my actions, the outcome would be good karma and I wanted to live a life full of good karma.
No more life of poverty and doing without. I believed that if I remained true to my beliefs that eventually wonderful things would happen and my situation would change.
Foundation for Change
Well, it worked. My life situation is very different today. I have a wonderful husband whom I love deeply. We’ve added another child to our family and we have prosperity and abundance in our lives. Money is not the answer, but it does allow more opportunities to come our way and opens the flow for many other blessings as well.
For me, doing what I love each and every day is the greatest gift I could ever receive and I live that gift today. I still do all the positive actions (and more) that I did five years ago because I believe that when we stop living within the light our life will directly reflect that and for me, that’s not an option.
I am a witch and a child of the Goddess and I choose to walk my talk. I choose to invest in my future, one moment at a time, living in the now, each and everyday.
